2-18-12 A Note From Ted....

Yesterday while I was having lunch with a group of friends one friend told me of his severe disapproval of "our military's handling of the wars" and how in his opinion we should mind our own business. My friends, I want to make something very clear. 99.9% of the men and women in our military services have no say in the "handling of the wars". Politicians and bureaucrats make the policies. The bulk of our service men and women serve because the country needs them. They go where they are told, when they are told and do so without question because thats the job they signed up to do. Do not make the mistake around me of using a dislike of government policy as an excuse to disrespect those in our armed services. On any given day between 1.5 and 2.5 Million Fathers, Sons, Mothers and Daughters in our armed services put on the uniform and vow to put themselves in harms way to defend the constitution, freedom and what we call the american way of life. Each and every one of them deserves your thanks and your respect.

First The Important Stuff.

USRNSF FORUMS GOING OFFLINE JAN 18, 2010

I will reopen the forums as soon as I can get software up and running on the site to operate them.
The service provider I have been using is sending me a monthly bill for page hits in addition to the cost of the forums themselves and the costs are adding up so we are moving the forums actually onto the site to reduce expenses.

Now .... Its time for a RANT.... Yes if you know me you know I am prone to a RANT
now and again. (If you just said "really?" then you either don't know me or you know me really well .. LOL)

Anyway.... Heres today's RANT.

WHAT IS IT WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SUGGEST SURVIVAL GEAR???
As I research other peoples ideas for survival gear just to make sure I am ontrack with the USRNSF Bug Out Bag Builder and my ideas I find an awful lot of folks with an awful lot of ideas but some of them really need to "GO AND DO" instead of "SIT AND TYPE"

Some examples without naming names ..... One guys site says the most important piece of gear in your bug-out-bag is a battery powered light to strap to your forehead.

DUDE!... Get off the chair and out in the woods for 48 hours in any weather and I promise you will trade that headlight for a drink of water.

Another rocket scientist says your home made tinder of cotton balls in vaseline will burn a whole minute. Long enough to light small sticks etc but you must rub the vaseline in thoroughly to get the cottonball to light and burn.

HELLO.... First, cotton balls and vaseline are an awesome fire starter. But... vaseline requires a HUGE amount of heat to get it burning initally so if your not lighting them with a bic best go easy on the vaseline. It is the dry cotton that will most easy catch a spark and light up and generate enough heat to start the vaseline melting at which time the cotton ball becomes a wick for the vaseline and can burn upto 5 min or more easily.

Folks, the most important survival tool to have available to you in a time of emergency is a clear head and experience. Get your BOB together and go camping for a weekend. Where there is no electricity, no water and no toilet. When you get back figure out what you used and what you didnt from your gear and what you needed that you didnt have and revise your kit accordingly. Take along a good survival book and a headlamp LOL.

Well, if you been paying attention then most of you know the site has needed updating for quite sometime. I have been a bit confused as to how to proceed. Well. The confusion is over. I know were we are going. How to get there..... well ... we will figure out on the way. But the updates....

Their a comin....

The retail side of the site has grown into a behemoth that is more than I can manage so its time to scale back a little and refocus.

I'm on it and I have a new partner in the maintenance and up keep that will be assisting.

So lets see if we can livin things up a bit..... LOL

Equipment Reviews and Real LEARNED Not just READ ABOUT Survival Skills.

Moving forward I want to focus the site on MIDWEST SURVIVAL SKILLS

Building, Supplying and Resupplying your Bug-Out-Bag

And reviewing Survival Books and Videos, TV Shows and People from a midwest view point.

Much of the site will remain the same. But some stuff with be changing, some going away and all of it will be getting an upgrade. Used and Consignment Sections are History for now and My immediate goal is to bring the forums on to the server with the site. Right now we farm them out to a service site. So as we move some of the content may change slightly or disappear all together. But when were done it should be more cohesive and less trouble to use the forums.

The Bug-Out-Bag builder is in the works....!!!!

And the inventory list is in the process of updates.

I will keep you informed!!!
