********** Bulletin August 9, 2008 *************

On August 8, 2008 USA Today posted a story regarding the potential of a Terminal Security Authority or TSA Ban on firearms at airports. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2008-08-07-tsa-gun-ban_N.htm

Currently TSA regulates firearms only in the boarding areas. The prohibition of Firearms on all airport grounds could make it impossible for air travellers to transport firearms. This prohibition is unacceptable. It would interephere with hunters transporting thier weapons and it would interphere with law abiding concealed carry holders rights to transport thier firearms to other states where they are also licensed to carry. The USRNSF posted the following comment.

"... The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." TSA allowing gun bans in opposition to the law of the land is in direct conflict with the god given constitutionally guaranteed rights of every passenger and anyone that comes with them to or from the airport. It would increase the difficulty or make it impossible to legally transport firearms by air. It would create a huge body of disarmed potential hostages for terrorists entering the airport. It would make it more difficult personal security agents to protect thier employers turning airports into the ultimate place to target those who normally have security around them and as has been shown true in the past. The restrictions would only be followed by the law abiding citizen. Criminals will ignore them just like they ignore all other laws.

Comments:

It would be inappropriate and inefficient for TSA / DHS to allow itself to be used to infringe on the second amendment rights of law abiding U.S. Citizens. Please further consider that the facts clearly show that such restrictions only effect law abiding citizens and do nothing to curb violence or criminal activity. Please do not allow your agency to be used in this way.
